The Noonday Demon is based on Andrew Solomon's epic memoir of the same name. Solomon's accounts the experiences of his depressive episodes as well as the years-long journey to uncover our relationship to depression. Solomon takes us through contemporary and classical understandings of depression, cultural processes and institutions surrounding depression, and current treatments and accessibility; achieving what Time called "the book for a generation, elegantly written, meticulously researched, empathetic, and enlightening"
In 2019, collaborating with the Eastfield College Dance Company, we created a short physical theatre piece devised from the text and experiences of the company. This built upon the initial workshop of the adaptation at East 15 in 2017. We are working to develop a full production based on this "Atlas" of Depression.
